Project Summary

V&D Interiors Ltd was appointed by GMI Construction to deliver the structural framing and internal drylining packages for the Avon Street Student Accommodation development in Bristol.

Situated on the former Chanson Foods site adjacent to Bristol’s iconic Floating Harbour and the proposed University of Bristol campus, the development provides 471 purpose-built student bedrooms across three contemporary buildings arranged around a central landscaped courtyard. The scheme forms part of the continued regeneration of Bristol’s education and waterfront district, creating high-quality accommodation for the city’s growing student population.

Our Scope of Works

V&D Interiors delivered a comprehensive internal package, including:

  • Structural Steel Framing System (SFS)
  • Metal stud partition systems
  • Fire-rated and acoustic partition installations
  • Tape & joint finishing throughout
  • Suspended ceiling systems
  • Fully tested through-wall systems
  • Coordination with mechanical and electrical services to ensure seamless installation

Working closely with British Gypsum and OP Systems, our team ensured that all wall and ceiling systems achieved the required fire protection and acoustic performance standards while maintaining programme efficiency and quality throughout the project.

Challenges

The technical nature of the project required careful coordination between manufacturers, designers and installation teams to deliver compliant wall systems across multiple buildings.

Key project challenges included:

  • Delivering a fully tested through-wall system that met stringent fire and acoustic requirements.
  • Coordinating SFS and internal partition installations across three buildings simultaneously.
  • Maintaining programme while working alongside multiple trades on a fast-paced construction programme.
  • Ensuring consistent quality and compliance throughout every phase of the installation.

Through detailed planning, strong collaboration with GMI Construction, British Gypsum and OP Systems, and effective site management, V&D Interiors successfully delivered the project within the 40-week programme.

The Result

The Avon Street Student Accommodation development provides high-quality modern living spaces in one of Bristol’s fastest-growing education districts, supporting the city’s expanding university population.

V&D Interiors successfully delivered the SFS, drylining and ceiling packages to the highest standards, providing fully compliant fire and acoustic systems while meeting the client’s programme and quality expectations. The project further demonstrates our capability to deliver technically complex student accommodation developments at scale through collaboration, precision and expert project management.
